Hi! I am Shaan, a graduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park. I have experience with pretty much every step of the UX research, design, and development process. I've single-handedly studied, designed, and built systems from the ground up. I am passionate about creating easy-to-use, culturally-responsive, and inclusive technologies for different populations (e.g., women, children, older adults, people with dementia, low literacy & economically weak groups).
I spent the summer as a UX Engineer intern at Appruve where I collaborated with their product and engineering teams to develop the future of financial onboarding and verification products. I also remotely collaborated with the Loki Team at INRIA, Lille, researching and designing interactive widgets for touch-based interfaces that afford micro-interactions. Last but not the least, I worked as a Research Assistant with Ge Gao's group at UMD, conducting qualitative and quantitative research using in-depth interviews, online diary studies, and remote usability testing sessions.
I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science & Engineering from IIIT-Delhi and enjoyed exploring multiple areas including machine learning, social media analytics, and ICTs for Development. I also spent a wonderful summer interning at INRIA, Paris with the MiMove Team in 2018.
I am fortunate to have worked with some amazing mentors: Pushpendra Singh (IIIT-Delhi), Neha Kumar (GaTech), Ponnurangam Kumaraguru (IIIT-Delhi), Rachit Agarwal (INRIA), Valérie Issarny (INRIA), Mayank Vatsa (IIIT-Delhi), Richa Singh (IIIT-Delhi), and Shriram Venkatraman (IIIT-Delhi). At UMD, I am being advised by Eun Kyoung Choe and am also collaborating with Amanda Lazar at the HCIL.
